You can register to vote and cast a ballot on the same day during the early voting period for this year's primary from Oct. 16 - Nov. 1.

NOTE! Same-day registration is available ONLY during the Oct. 16 - Nov. 1 early voting period. If you plan on voting on the Nov. 4 Election Day, instead of during the early the period, you MUST register to vote by Oct. 10.

Voting Requirements

You may register to vote in North Carolina if you are:

  • a United States citizen
  • at least 18 years old or will be by the date of the Nov. 4 general election
  • a resident of North Carolina and the county precinct where you want to vote for at least 30 days before the election
  • not a convicted felon still in custody, on probation or on parole. If you have served all parts of your sentence, you can register.

 

 

 

 

 

Steps to Register to Vote

2. Complete the voter registration form.

NC Voter Registration Form(You are required to provide your North Carolina drivers license number if you have one. If you don't have a license, you can provide the last four digits of your Social Security number.

If you do not have either of these, you may include with the voter registration form a copy of identification that shows your name and address.

  • a one-stop polling place during the early voting period from Oct. 16 - Nov. 1
  • a voter registration drive
  • many government agencies, including the DMV, Employment Security Commission and most Social Service agencies. Most libraries also have voter registration forms.
